Nebraska Registered Agent Requirements Explained

The Role in Plain Terms

A registered agent is the person or company that the state has on file to receive legal and compliance documents for your business. If someone sues your LLC, the court papers go to your registered agent. If the Secretary of State sends a biennial report reminder, it goes there too.

The agent must be physically present at a Nebraska street address during normal business hours (Monday through Friday) to accept those documents. PO boxes do not qualify.

Who Qualifies Under Nebraska Law

Nebraska sets these requirements for registered agents:

• Individuals must be at least 18 years old and Nebraska residents
• Business entities must be authorized to do business in the state
• The agent's business office must be identical to the registered office address listed with the state
