Switching Your Nebraska Registered Agent

A clean Nebraska registered agent setup for $99 per year. You get the office address on file, scanned legal mail, and compliance reminders ahead of state deadlines.

Nebraska business district

One document filed under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 21-114 is all Nebraska requires to move your business to a new registered agent. The state collects $25 for online submissions and $30 for paper ones, and there is no coverage gap: the outgoing agent remains on record until the moment the filing replaces them.

When It Makes Sense to Switch

  • Documents forwarded late, or never
  • A home address on the public record you would rather pull back
  • An agent who moved away, retired, or stopped answering
  • Paying a premium rate for a commodity service
  • Wanting biennial report reminders and a document portal bundled in

Nebraska's Change Form and Its Fee

The filing has one long name: the Statement of Change of Designated Office, Registered Agent and/or Registered Agent's Address. There is no form number to memorize, because the Nebraska Secretary of State does not number its forms. The domestic LLC version of the statement is what a Nebraska LLC files, and it goes to the Business Services Division.

Two details people miss:

  • The fee is $25 for an online filing and $30 in office. The old $15 figure floating around the internet predates the state's July 1, 2021 fee change.
  • The biennial report cannot make this change for you. Agent and office updates only move through the Statement of Change.

The current form and the full fee schedule live on the Secretary of State's forms and fee information page.

Changing Registered Agents in Nebraska: The Steps

Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.

  1. Qualify your new agent. Section 21-113 requires a Nebraska resident individual or an entity with authority to transact business in the state, reachable at a Nebraska street address.
  2. Fill out the Statement of Change. Enter your entity name exactly as the state records it, then the new agent's name and address details.
  3. File and pay. Send it to the Secretary of State's Business Services Division, $25 online or $30 on paper.
  4. Check the record. When the filing posts, your entity's public listing shows the new agent. Confirm it before you consider the job done.

Processing speed belongs to the state, and the statement is a short filing. Until it posts, your existing agent remains the official contact, so documents have a valid destination at every point in the transition. Once recorded, everything routes to us, gets scanned, and reaches you the same day.

Nebraska does not oblige you to tell the outgoing agent, although most people send a short note anyway.
